Event information

This presentation will explore how psychiatrists can integrate evidence-based nutritional strategies into routine mental health care. It will provide a practical overview of the current evidence linking diet and mental health, with a focus on assessment, brief interventions, and referral pathways. Participants will learn how to discuss nutrition with patients in a clinically relevant, patient-centred manner and identify opportunities to support dietary behaviour change within psychiatric practice. The session will also highlight key considerations for implementation across diverse clinical settings.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe the evidence supporting the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of common mental health conditions.
2. Identify practical opportunities to incorporate nutrition-related assessment and discussions into routine psychiatric care.
3. Apply a stepped-care approach to nutritional psychiatry, including appropriate brief interventions, referrals, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
